The `08/15 was an attempt to provide the german infantry with something rather more portable than the standard `08 on its sledge mount. it was given a small bipod, a shoulder stock and a pistol grip, and the receiver was re-designed in the order to try and save weight. Feed was still by a cloth belt, but a special short belt was used which couldbe coiled on a reel and carried in a container clamped to the side of the gun. In fixed position the standard 250 round belt could be used. There was also an aircraft version of this gun which has a perforated barrel jacket instead of the water jacket, relying upon the airstream to cool the barrel.
