CETME C2 / CB64

CETME C2

CETME C2 (also known as CETME CB64) submachine gun was developed during early 1960s in Spain by state-owned arms-making company CETME.

This submachine gun was manufactured in limited numbers, chambered for 9mm Largo (9x23) ammunition for domestic use or for 9mm Luger (9x19) ammunition for export. The CETME C2 submachine gun bears more than passing similarity to the British Sterling L2 submachine gun, although there are certain and distinct differences in design of some major parts. Externally the CETME C2 can be distinguished from Sterling L2 by grip profile, straight (rather than curved) magazine and by folding cocking handle, which also has a sliding dust-cover for its slot in the receiver.

The CETME C2 submachine gun is a simple blowback operated weapon which fires from open bolt. The firing pin is operated by a special lever inside the bolt, which allows the firing pin to protrude forward and hit the primer of the chambered cartridge only when bolt is fully in battery. The external surface of the cylindrical bolt has spiral slots to accumulate dirt and grit and reduce friction. Gun can fire in single shots or in full auto, thanks to combined safety / fire mode selector lever on the left side of the trigger unit. The magazine is inserted horizontally from the left, ejection is to the right. Metallic buttstock folds down and forward, to rest below the perforated barrel jacket. The rear sight is of the L-shaped flip-up type, with settings for 50 or 100 meters range.
